Klondike vs FreeCell
In Klondike many of the cards start face down, so you are playing with incomplete information and some deals simply cannot be won. You get a stock to draw from and a limited number of passes through it.
FreeCell deals every card face up, and there is no stock at all. Four free cells, each holding a single card, give you room to untangle the tableau, and with careful play almost every deal can be won. That makes it a puzzle rather than a gamble.
