Cribbage vs Gin Rummy
In Cribbage you score all the time. You discard to the dealer's crib, lay cards in turn up to a running total of 31 for fifteens, pairs and runs, and then count your hand and the crib. Points are tracked on a peg board and the first to 121 wins.
Gin Rummy has no board and no running score. You draw and discard to arrange your cards into melds, and knock when your leftover cards are worth 10 or less. The tension is in guessing how close your opponent is, and when you can afford to end the hand.
